Meeting Priessnitz in Frývaldov

The boom of the then Gräfenberg Spa influenced also the nearby town. Frývaldon, today`s Jeseník, became an administrative and economic centre of the region at that time. That is why you can see monuments commemorating Vincenz Priessnitz also in Jeseník.

Right on the Masaryk Square, there is the Priessnitz Fountain. During summer, it is a favourite place for children to play with water. A little bit further on, in Smetanovy Sady Park, there is the Priessnitz Sculpture symbolizing the healing power of water cure. A three-meter statue of the water doctor is surrounded by an impressive and realistic group of the sick, who are changing into strong and healthy figures on the opposite site of the sculpture group. The sculpture originated in 1909 and it was highly appreciated at that time, it was considered to be the best monument in Austrian Silesia. Its author, Josef Obeth, was born in Terezín by Mikulovice. The figures are sculpted from Tyrolean marble, architectonic elements from Silesian marble from Velké Kunětice.
