Tennis belongs among the most popular games in the world. The game was patented in 1875 by an Englishman, since then it has been spread all over the world. The tradition of tennis in Gräfenberg dates back to the times of Johann Ripper, Priessnitz`s son-in-law, as can be seen on postcards. This means that tennis was played in the spa resort earlier than Priessnitz Sanatorium was built, and earlier than the first Australian Open was held in Melbourne.
In a close proximity of the Priessnitz Sanatorium, there are four clay courts.
