We always associate relaxation exercises with awareness of ourselves, our own body, and an awareness of the muscles we are stretching and tensing. We feel the pain and the heat associated with it. It is essential to be aware of our breath.The breathing exercise is very similar. However, the emphasis is on stretching especially the chest, shoulder girdle muscles, and neck muscles. It focuses on the breath, its intensity, retention, the use of resisted exhalations, etc. A number of yoga postures is used which are aimed at opening the rib cage and thus improving pulmonary ventilation.
